Brandy Salazar, owner of Indy Transport Services Inc. in Greenwood, Indiana, is a 4th-generation member of the transportation industry. The agency's successful longevity is due to a safety-first culture, a great team, honesty, and loyal customers.
How long have you been with Indy Transport Services?
I’ve been an agency owner for three and a half years. Prior to that, I worked for my father within the agency for 22 years. We are based out of the Indianapolis area and primarily focus on open-deck freight, hazmat, and over-dimensional freight
How does Indy Transport Services remain successful after so many years in business?
Our agency began before Landstar was created. My grandfather was one of the first agents for the Independent Freightways division of Ligon Nationwide in 1982, under the Region Manager Robert Zonneville. In 1988, the five companies (Independent Freightways, Ligon, Poole, Ranger, and Gemini) merged to form Landstar, led by President Jeff Crowe.
Cultivating relationships is our key to success—whether that be with customers, BCOs, or employees. Our long-standing relationships can be attributed to an emphasis on honesty, teamwork, and open communication.
How does being a Landstar agency help your business succeed?
Landstar provides a range of tools and resources to support success. If you want help, it’s available to every agency. Most departments send weekly news and updates, and our team has attended monthly safety calls, LSO Meetings, and MUST customer visits.
Landstar has been a very important part of our family for generations. Having a company support us long-term is invaluable, and we look forward to the continued growth of our agency and partnership.
Where do you want to see the future of Indy Transport Service?
One goal I’m working on this year is to expand our customer base. Reaching out to locations that we’ve picked up at and/or delivered to in the past, as well as reaching out to a list of new ones that I’m interested in pursuing.
What advice would you give to new agents?
My advice to a new agent is to maintain open lines of communication with Landstar, your team, your customers, and your drivers. Use other Landstar agents as a resource. Build a relationship with BCOs. Take care of them, and they will take care of you.
Where are you when you’re not running your successful business?
Outside of work, I love to travel with my husband and three daughters. If we’re not traveling, then you can find me at the lake, watching college football, or enjoying live music.
